A new WSB is born in Quebec
The brokerage management system (BMS) market is already busy in Quebec. This does not prevent a young entrepreneur by the name ofAlain Roy from commercializing his system, which he has named UneSolutionSvp, in October, and from serving his first clients in early 2020.
Is there room for another BMS in Quebec, when there are already companies like Applied Systems, Keal Technology, Power Broker, Policy Works, Deltek Software and Ultima Group marketing their solutions? « No, there’s no room. I’ll have to make room for myself, » says Roy.
It intends to become the reference in the computer damage insurance industry in Quebec. Mr. Roy will also offer several other complementary services, ranging from computer equipment rentals to Web site design.
He also offers a customer service assistance service for brokers who would like his advice on their telephone discussions with their clients. He will also work on the development of an employee management module and computerized audits.
He plans to differentiate himself from the start on one point, with firms that have a referral program in place with car dealerships. Mr. Roy has developed a complete module for firms with such agreements.
Genesis of the creation of a WSB
Before creating UneSolutionSvp, Mr. Roy launched an online comparison service two years ago: UneSoumissionSvp, an area where ClicAssure.com is largely dominant. This strong competition did not hurt Mr. Roy. Rather, it was the slowness of the brokers who were buying leads to call back clients that caused Mr. Roy to become disillusioned with his model, as he had entered the insurance business through Primerica… in life insurance. He then focused his career on property and casualty insurance, while also owning a computer business for a time.
PleaseQuote is still in operation, but Mr. Roy has turned it into a brokerage firm and is handling requests from clients who ask for a quote. He has built a small volume of property and casualty insurance business from this site.
In creating UneSolutionSvp, Mr. Roy built the architecture of his customer management system, which was similar to a BMS. When he launched his firm, he shopped for a brokerage management system. He says that the costs associated with the day-to-day operation of such a system had « sawn his legs off ». He therefore preferred to develop his own system.
At various networking events with brokers, he introduced them to his model. So much so that some of his colleagues asked him to rent his solution. He refused at first, but soon realized that there might be a business opportunity there. From this was born UneSolutionSvp.
He has invested in the development of his platform and has also sought financing from the Business Development Bank of Canada and Futurpreneur.
His game plan
Mr. Roy plans to initially approach small start-up firms, but is convinced that one day medium and large firms will be able to join his platform. He says he is aware that he has a long way to go to achieve his ambition of becoming the reference in computerized damage insurance in Quebec. He’s giving himself a 10-year time horizon to get there, says the 41-year-old.
« That’s how long it will take me to show that I’m solid and serious, » says the man who is also behind the Facebook pageProperty and Casualty Insurance Networking, which has more than 3,000 followers.
